2000 tons per year
Carbon fiber and its composite materials are high-tech products which are necessary for the aviation and military industries. The global output is about 35,000 tons, 25% of which is consumed by China. In 2009, China used 7,500 tons of carbon fiber, 46.7% was for industrial use, 40% was for sports and leisure products, and 13.3% was for aviation use. At present, 95% of the carbon fiber on Chinese market is imported from Japan, Taiwan or other regions and its price has increased by 400% in the last few years. China encourages the research and development of carbon fiber materials, particularly of 1,000-ton-scale high performance carbon fiber and polyacrylonitrile fibre, as well as the production of large production equipment and important auxiliary materials.
The project is located in Jining Chemical Industrial Development Zone in Jinxiang county. Industrial production of carbon fiber is classified into three types, and this project mainly involves the PAN (polyacrylonitrile-based) type.
The production process includes production and charring of protofilament. The charring step refers to the preoxidiation, low-temperature carbonization, high-temperature carbonization and post treatment of protofilament so as to make it into carbon fiber containing over 90% of carbon.
The Zone has all necessary supportive infrastructure for this project.
